Arizona Cardinals receiver corps is among the deepest in the NFL.

Pro Bowl selection Nine-time Larry Fitzgerald leads a group that includes Michael Floyd and John and Jaron Brown, all of which can make games for quarterback Carson Palmer.

Rams cornerback E. J. Gaines recognizes the threat on many levels.

And the third year pro wants to play a role in neutralizing this Sunday at University of Phoenix Stadium.

"It is a complete stack," Gaines said Tuesday when asked about the receivers of Cardinals. "No better game to return to.

"I'm hoping this is the week. I'm ready if so."

The Rams have been eagerly awaiting the return from Gaines cornerback Janoris Jenkins signed with the New York Giants in March.

Gaines sitting on last season because of a foot injury, but the Rams provided that a player who started 15 games as a rookie in 2014 would return and start facing labeled franchise corner Trumaine Johnson.

It did not work that way.

Although Gaines said his foot is solid, it has not played this season because of a quadriceps injury, one of many physical setbacks he has suffered since training camp.

The coach Jeff Fisher said last week that Gaines was "very close" to return, but Gaines was inactive for Sunday's 37-32 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay quarter Jameis Winston passed for 405 yards and three touchdowns against a side featuring Troy Hill and Coty Sensabaugh play against Johnson.

On Monday, when asked Gaines wait to return to the lineup, Fisher said: "Really good luck this week" Tuesday, Fisher said he did not know the Gaines status for Sunday's game at most. later in the week.

"He had a very good workout pregame Tampa and felt really good, no setbacks," said Fisher. "So we'll see how it is and just kind of do work in . "

The Rams went from ninth to 17th in the NFL in passing defense after playing the Buccaneers. Mike Evans and receivers Adam Humphries each had 100 yards or more receiving yards.

The Rams, who are 2-1 and in first place in the NFC West, gave up 266 passing yards per game. They visited four touchdowns and intercepted a pass.

return ducts would not only strengthen the Rams coverage outside. It would allow them to play Sensabaugh mostly in the slot, where it was more effective while playing for the Tennessee Titans before signing with the Rams.

The 5-foot-10, 190 pounds Gaines said he would add more elements to the secondary when he returns.

"Hopefully, just bring some physical presence outside, contain some of these tracks that bounce off and help get the defense off the field on third down," he said.

Primarily, Gaines add game experience in coordinator Gregg Williams defensive system. Experience, safety T. J. McDonald said, that should not be underestimated.

"We have under our belt snaps together, so for us the communication is good," said McDonald. "He knows what he wants from me and I know what to expect from him."

The Cardinals are 1-2 after Sunday's 33-18 loss against the Buffalo Bills. Palmer was intercepted four passes in the fourth quarter.

Gaines said he was looking forward to the challenge of playing against the Cardinals and he intended to show coaches this week that he is ready to be part of the range.

"Just be 100%," he said, "and give them no doubt."
